Strictly's Anton Du Beke stuns Who Wants to be a Millionaire audience with never-before-seen move
by Chloe Dobinson, Mark Jefferies · Wales OnlineThis weekend on ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, viewers are in for a shock as Anton Du Beke faces what has been deemed one of the game show's most extraordinary moments. The Strictly Come Dancing judge breezes through the initial rounds but then stumbles on a dance and musicals themed question.
In jeopardy of losing a significant sum for The Sick Children's Trust, his chosen charity, Anton is confronted with a critical decision. Host Jeremy Clarkson remarked to the Mirror: "When that cropped up, I thought well 'this was tailor made for you' and then it wasn't. It's a bit like me not knowing a Nico Rosberg question."
A source from the show disclosed that both the events during and after the pivotal £32,000 question were unparalleled in celebrity series history, stating: "Anton does something we have never seen before on the show and high stakes are involved. He seemed shocked at the end of his game and the studio audience were too."
To discover the outcome of this unusual episode, audiences will have to watch the show. Clarkson introduces Anton, noting the dancer's history with less adept celebrity partners, jestingly suggests he'll be in good company stating, "known for being paired with older celebrities who couldn't dance, so I'll be right at home with me".
When asked if he would consider joining Strictly Come Dancing, Jeremy Clarkson made it clear that it's not for him: "No. I loathe dancing, I truly loathe dancing. I have danced. But I will only dance to 'Modern Love' by David Bowie and only if I've had every single drop of alcohol in a place! So, it's not actually dancing, it's mostly not falling over is all I'm actually doing. People think I'm dancing but it isn't – it's just me trying to stay up", reports the Mirror.
Anton Du Beke's recent success on the game show circuit follows Sir Stephen Fry's impressive win of £250,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, where Clarkson assisted him with an answer during a celebrity special.
The ITV quiz show, once hosted by Chris Tarrant, added a new lifeline called "ask the host" when Clarkson took over presenting duties in 2018.
Sir Stephen Fry, the former QI presenter, sought advice from Richard Osman, the Pointless star, for the £500,000 question using his phone-a-friend lifeline, although Osman couldn't provide the needed assistance.
Despite not reaching the top prize, Sir Stephen expressed his enjoyment: "I am delighted and I am not complaining at all", adding: "It was extremely good fun. The time goes so quickly."
Reflecting on the support he received from Clarkson, Sir Stephen commented: "Jeremy is very encouraging, and he was great with the question that took me to a quarter of a million."
