A 19-year-old man suspected of killing a 28-year-old man in Fresno’s Tower District on Sept. 26 was arrested Monday morning.
Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said Jeremiah Listman was arrested after the department’s SWAT team assisted homicide detectives in the area of Fruit and Olive avenues.
Casto said officers were serving an arrest warrant for Listman when they had to breach the door and use a flash-bang device after he did not come outside.
Authorities found Listman inside the home and took him into custody.
According to Casto, Listman and several friends were in the Tower District when they encountered 28-year-old Tyrone Miles and his friends, leading to an exchange of words just after 2:50 a.m.
Casto said Listman yelled out his gang affiliation before turning to walk away. He then turned back toward Miles and allegedly fired a shot, striking Miles.
Listman fled the area.
A nearby officer responded to Miles and performed life-saving measures before Miles was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Casto said Miles and Listman did not know each other.
Casto also said Listman had a history with police and was out on bond in connection with an April 2 stabbing at Fulton Mall.
“He was one of the suspects involved in that case where there was stabbing and a subsequent person stomping on another,” Casto said.
