Newcomer takes lead in tight Clovis City Council race. He’d be the youngest ever

Political newcomer Mason Magsig took the lead in one of Clovis’s new City Council districts.

Magsig tallied 57.8% of the vote in the first returns of the night, while Maeketah Sayasane garnered 41.6%.

Magsig is the son of Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig, who is expected to win his own election for the state Senate District 12. The younger Magsig is a commercial banker and real estate agent.

If elected, Magsig will become the youngest councilmember in Clovis history, breaking the record set by his father, who served Clovis constituents for 16 years, by 14 months, Magsig previously told The Fresno Bee.

Sayasane is an analyst in Fresno city’s planning department who previously worked for the Fresno Police Department.

The election marks the first year Clovis shifted from an at-large election to a district-based voting system.
