A man has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possessing an offensive weapon close to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's home in Norfolk.

Police were called to a report of a man behaving in an intimidating manner in the village of Wolferton, near the Sandringham Estate, at about 19:30 on Wednesday.

A man wearing a balaclava allegedly ran towards the former prince while he was walking his dogs, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Mountbatten-Windsor and a member of his private security rushed to their car and drove away as the suspect allegedly tried to chase after them, the paper reported.

The man was allegedly sitting in a car then got out to make his way to the former prince and shouted, according to the paper.

Norfolk Police confirmed the suspect was taken to King's Lynn for questioning and remains in custody.

The incident was near Marsh Farm, the property on the Sandringham Estate that Mountbatten-Windsor moved to after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor due to his association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He was also stripped by the King of his right to be a prince and his dukedom late last year over his links to Epstein.

Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied any wrongdoing.

The Telegraph said it was understood the former duke was shaken by the incident and was asked to provide a statement about what happened, as was his personal protection officer.

It is understood the King provides a private a lump-sum allowance to Mountbatten-Windsor to cover his living expenses which includes private security protection.

Mountbatten-Windsor has been approached for comment. Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
