This is the Volkswagen ID.Every1, a new concept that previews an upcoming entry-level electric vehicle (EV) that the will debut in 2027. The production version is rumoured to be called the ID.1 and will be part of the brand’s Electric Urban Car Family, which also includes the ID.2all, with both putting affordability at the forefront.

Where the ID.2all will be around the 25,000-euro (about RM119k) mark when it goes on sale in 2026, the production ID.Every1 is said to start from just 20,000 euros (RM95k). These products form part of Volkswagen’s future plan that will see nine new models by 2027, including four EVs.

According to Volkswagen, the ID.Every1 is built on the MEB platform and measures 3,880 mm long, 1,816 mm wide, 1,490 mm and has a wheelbase that spans 2,539 mm. It adds that there is enough space of four people and the boot volume is 305 litres.

If it reminds of the up! that ended production in 2023, that is because the ID.Every1 is the successor to that compact city car, albeit grown. The concept’s 3,880 mm length places it between the former up! (3,600 mm) as well as the ID.2all (4,050 mm) and current Polo (4,074 mm).

Design-wise, the concept is described by the company as being “likeable,” with golden ratio proportions and cues that pay homage to the past. These include C-pillars and a flat beltline inspired by the first Golf, while the black surround of the window is a homage to the up! and first Golf GTI.

Elsewhere, you’ll find pupil-like headlamps and taillights, although we’re not sure if the flared arches meant to contain the large 19-inch alloys will survive the transition to production. Volkswagen also notes it added “the secret sauce” with hidden details like the “flying roof,” where the roof surface is lowered in the middle, with the third brake light integrated into the recess at the centre. The outer surfaces in the roof end strip are also drawn out to the rear, which also serves an aerodynamic purpose.

Inside, the concept boasts warm colours and lounge-like seating, with most of the fabrics being made from recycled materials such as PET bottles. Terrazzo-like mottled surfaces provide a light and modern look, with tech features coming in the form of large central infotainment touchscreen and small digital instrument cluster.

Ahead of the driver is a two-spoke steering wheel with flattened upper and lower sections, with this shape being applied for controls in other locations like the mirror adjustment button. Volkswagen was also keen to point out clever touches like the dash panel ahead of the front passenger that is said to be variable, with a tablet being able to be snapped onto the rail here.

The centre console is another smart interior detail being pointed out. In addition to being an armrest, the console can be moved all the way back on a rail and there are shelves that can be pulled out. A removable Bluetooth speaker can also be found between the driver and front passenger.

As for the powertrain, the concept features a front electric motor that is rated at just 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW), which is good for a top speed of 130 km/h. The quoted range is around 250 km following the WLTP standard, which isn’t much but should be sufficient for city car purposes.
