AMD Ryzen gaming CPUs now dominate top 10 sales, with Intel nowhere to be found
Under-performing Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, and the top frame rates from the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, force Intel out of the best seller charts.
by Joel Loynds · PCGamesNIt appears that PC builders have gone all in on AMD Ryzen, as Amazon’s top ten processor list contains nothing but the company’s CPUs. Intel has been pushed out to 12th place, as the company’s latest generations of CPUs have been besieged with issues.
This isn’t so much the case for AMD, which despite some issues surrounding the initial Zen 5 launch, has come out on top with its new CPU with 3D V-cache, especially compared to the new Intel chips. In fact, in our Ryzen 7 9800X3D review, we classed it as the best gaming CPU you can buy right now.
The tides have changed for Intel since it turned out that its 13th and 14th-generation Raptor Lake CPUs had a tendency to burn themselves out, thanks to a voltage shift issue. Meanwhile, its most recent release, Intel Arrow Lake, or Core 200, has failed to impress in terms of gaming performance as well, as we found in our recent Core Ultra 7 265K review. As you can see in the image below, all of the top 11 best selling CPUs on Amazon are made by AMD right now.
Meanwhile, in the UK, Amazon’s top ten processor chart is again dominated by AMD CPUs, aside from ninth place. The previous Intel budget powerhouse, which we gave a score of 8/10 in our Core i5 12400F review, can still be found in the top ten, providing great bang for the buck as it sits under £100 ($126.31) without the potential to fry itself.
AMD’s latest and greatest, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has sold out pretty much everywhere. Currently, Amazon only has third-party offers, with a $200 price increase over its MSRP.
Other competitors such as Newegg tell a slightly different story, however, as Intel’s chips are on heavy discount at the moment. The 14900K price has sunk lower than AMD’s gaming champion, and the 12th generation behemoth, the 12900K is now sitting below $300 at $276.66.
However, the top three spots are still dominated by AMD, with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 7600X in the top two spots, while the Socket AM4-based Ryzen 7 5700X3D takes third place.
AMD has rocketed to superstardom as its prices and performance have stolen PC gaming fans’ hearts. While the 9800X3D might remain out of stock for the time being, its other offerings – even from the last generation – if you want to build a gaming PC, AMD’s latest Ryzen CPUs are clearly the players’ choice right now.
