Amad Diallo made history during Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton, scoring his first Premier League hat-trick at the age of 22 years and 189 days.
A Manuel Ugarte own-goal gave the Saints the lead going into 80 minutes but the former Atalanta man turned the game around with three goals deep into the second half.
This remarkable achievement places him as the second-youngest player to score a Premier League hat-trick for the club, behind the legendary Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s first hat-trick for United came on his debut, on October 28, 2004, in a 4-0 victory against Fenerbahçe in the Champions League. However, his first Premier League hat-trick came two years later, on October 28, 2006, during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.

At just 20 years old, he delivered a masterclass in finishing. His goals that day included a sharp counterattack finish set up by Louis Saha, a composed strike past the goalkeeper, and a sublime late chip to seal the treble.
Amad’s display against Southampton came late on, netting all three in just 12 minutes. He is the first United player to score a hat-trick since Cristiano Ronaldo.
After scoring the equaliser in the 82nd minute, the Ivorian sensation struck twice more in the 90th and 94th minutes, sealing a dramatic victory for United.

Wayne Rooney went on to become the club’s all-time goalscorer

“One of the best weeks of my life”, says Amad Diallo

“In football you have to believe,” he told TNT Sports after the contest. “We believed until the end and are very happy to win this game. We drew with Arsenal and Liverpool so the confidence was there. We are very happy.

“[This is] one of the best weeks in my life. I am very happy for this win. This team deserved to win this game so I am very happy.”

The youngster continued: “We know we have quality players in this team. We need sometimes to be more hungry in the final third. Today we showed at the end we were the best team. I am so happy for the win today because this team deserves it.

“I am ready to play every position where the manager likes to put me. I am ready to fight for this club. I am so happy to play where the manager wants me to play and I am so happy to score a hat-trick.”
