'Train Dreams,' 'Lurker' win big at the Independent Spirit Awards
by Karen Butler · UPIFeb. 15 (UPI) -- Train Dreams was the big winner at the Independent Spirit Awards at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday.
The drama took home the prizes for Best Feature, Best Director for Clint Bentley and Best Cinematography for Adolpho Veloso.
Lurker scored the trophies for Best First Feature and Best First screenplay for Alex Russell.
Kayo Martin won for Best Breakthrough Performance for The Plague, while Naomi Ackie and Eva Victor respectively won the trophies for Best Supporting Performance and Best Screenplay for Sorry, Baby.
The Best Documentary prize went to The Perfect Neighbor and the Best International Film honor went to The Secret Agent.
Rose Byrne took home the statuette for Best Lead Performance for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.
In the TV categories, Adolescence was voted Best New Scripted Series, while cast members Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty picked up the awards for Best Breakthrough Performance, Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series.
The prize for Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series was presented to the stars of Chief of War -- Charlie Brumbly, Luciane Buchanan, Cliff Curtis, Brandon Finn, Moses Goods, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Benjamin Hoetjes, Siua Ikale'o, Keala Kahuanui-Paleka, Mainei Kinimaka, Kaina Makua, Jason Momoa, Temuera Morrison, Te Kohe Tuhaka and James Udom.
Actress and comedian Ego Nwodim hosted the gala, which streamed live on YouTube.
