June 2 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, will replace Tulsi Gabbard as acting director of national intelligence.

Gabbard announced her resignation in May, saying she will step down June 30.

Pulte previously owned a construction company and private equity firm and has no experience in intelligence. He will keep his position at the FHFA and chair of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,Trump announced on Truth Social.

"William has deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America, the safety and soundness of the Markets, and over 10 Trillion Dollars at Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, a substantial increase from where it was just 12 months ago. During this period, he will remain Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and Chairman of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Congratulations to Director Pulte!"

Trump had announced that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas would replace Gabbard. It's unclear whether Lukas will take the position or Pulte.

Pulte has alleged fraud against several of Trump's foes in their mortgage applications, including Fed Governor Lisa Cook for claiming two different homes as her primary residence. She has appealed her firing by Trump to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Pulte has also accused Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.; former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif.; and New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat. All of those attempts have failed.
