'Frightened' Rylan Clark confesses that there's one Christmas thing he 'can't do'

by · Birmingham Live

As December approaches, many of us are preparing to deck the halls with Christmas decorations. However, Radio 2's Rylan Clark has confessed there's one festive staple he won't be hanging on his tree.

"I can't do tinsel, it frightens me," the star revealed during his Saturday show, adding that just glancing at the sparkly trimmings makes him feel "make him itchy."

Instead, he prefers to adorn his tree with a string of faux ivy. With a busy work schedule over the festive period, Rylan has started his decorating early to ensure he gets some quality time at home with his tree.

The presenter will be taking centre stage as "The Spirit of the Beans" in Jack and the Beanstalk from Saturday, December 14. He humorously declared he'd be "channelling his inner Olivia Coleman" for the pantomime at Southend's Cliffs Pavilion, describing his role as "It's a very fun part."

For those fans who can't make the trip to Essex, there's still an opportunity to see Rylan over the holiday season, joined by a very special guest.

Mariah Carey, the undisputed Queen of Christmas, will be sitting down with the Essex-born star for an exclusive chat. Filmed earlier this year in Los Angeles, the multi-platinum record selling, Grammy Award-winning artist met Rylan for the first time, reports the Manchester Evening News.

He questioned her about life, music, and naturally, the festive season as her iconic hit All I Want For Christmas Is You marks its 30th anniversary.

Rylan's home has been festively adorned by local florists Early Hours, much like the previous year. His 2023 disco-themed decorations have already garnered praise from his celebrity friends, including Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney, Strictly's Oti Mabuse and Natalie Casey.

The display, which was unveiled just yesterday, has already received numerous comments, with ITV's Paul Brand inquiring about its resilience against Storm Bert.
