Chris Davies reveals what was said in Steve Evans and Taylor Gardner-Hickman fracas
by Alex Dicken, https://www.facebook.com/alexdickenjournalist/?fref=ts · Birmingham LiveChris Davies won’t dwell on his disagreement with Steve Evans after the Rotherham manager took umbrage with Taylor Gardner-Hickman after Birmingham City’s win over the Millers.
Blues boss Davies was embroiled in a heated exchange with Evans after the final whistle at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. A brace from Jay Stansfield completed a comeback victory for Blues to extend their lead at the top of League One.
Once Evans had finished his disagreement with Davies, he confronted Blues midfielder Gardner-Hickman, who won the decisive penalty with a slalom through midfield before being tripped by Hakeem Odoffin in the box. The penalty was the last thing on Evans' mind though.
“They were talking about a foul on Taylor at the end of the game,” revealed Davies. “I think they thought he was down for too long but he had blood coming out of his nose.
“From my point of view, it’s football. The opposition have just lost a game, they’re not happy about it, but whatever is said out there, we just move on from it.”
Gardner-Hickman produced a man of the match performance in midfield on what was his eighth straight start. Davies believes the on-loan Bristol City man was the catalyst for Blues’ comeback win.
Davies said: “I’ve given him every job you could possibly have on a football pitch this season, all positions, and he’s full blooded, full hearted and he’s 100 percent every day and he’s 100 percent every game.
“Even at the end, what is great about him is that he physically looks strong at the end of games. He was running past people, winning tackles and had blood coming off his face and all sorts.
“He’s been a really important player this season. He’s not always started, he’s not always had it all his own way, but his response to it all has been outstanding and today I thought he was a real catalyst for us to come back and win the game.”
