Young woman driver killed in Wolvey crash as police make appeal

A woman driver, aged in her 20s, was tragically killed in a crash last night. A driver in a different car was also rushed to hospital with serious injuries as Warwickshire Police made an appeal for information.

The tragedy happened at the junction of Mere Lane and Copston Lane, in Wolvey, at about 6pm, yesterday, Tuesday, October 1. One woman was declared dead at the scene.

Her family is being supported by specialist officers. Police urged anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage to come forward.

In a statement, police said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a fatal two-car collision in Wolvey yesterday. At around 6pm yesterday, 1 October, emergency services were called to a two-car collision at the junction of Mere Lane and Copston Lane.

"The driver of one of the cars was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the second car, a woman in her twenties, sadly died at the scene.

"The woman’s next of kin is being supported by specialist officers at this time. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash cam footage, is asked to call 101 or visit Report | Warwickshire Police citing incident number 274 of 1 September."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews discovered two cars had been in collision, both of which had suffered significant damage. There were two patients. One of whom, a woman who was the driver of one of the cars, was found to be in a critical condition.

"Fire service colleagues were already providing basic life support before ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support. However, despite best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save her, and she was declared dead at the scene.

“The second patient, a man who was the driver of the second car, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”
