Becky Hill paused her ‘homecoming’ show in Birmingham to pay tribute to Liam Payne. Worcestershire superstar Becky played to a crowd of over 14,000 at the Utilita Arena on Saturday.

But the high-energy show was stopped to silence as she took a moment to reflect on the tragic death of the One Direction star from Wolverhampton. Fans across the globe were left heartbroken by Liam’s death on Wednesday after he fell from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

Becky first hinted at the tragedy, referring to the crowd about what had happened over the last few days, before saying ‘rest in peace Liam Payne’. She then added Liam’s death was ‘tragedy’.

Becky then implored her audience not to ‘cancel’ her as she performed a new song she said was about the issues of fame and the music business. It was a sombre moment of an otherwise raucous and light-hearted hour and an half set in Birmingham.

It’s the closest thing to a homecoming show for the Bewdley singer, who first appeared on TV talent show The Voice before becoming one of the biggest names in UK chart music, releasing a string of dance-pop tracks over the last decade.

She had her fans singing and jumping along to her many songs. Her performance in Birmingham comes at the end of an emotional week, particularly in the West Midlands where both Becky and Liam hail from.

Her message for the One Direction star was one of a few moments where the music stopped and she addressed the crowd. Becky also spoke about the cost of living crisis and how many people are having to rely on food banks, thanking her fans for spending their "hard-earned money" to come and see her perform.
