I went to Becky Hill's 'homecoming' Utilita Arena Birmingham gig and got exactly what I expected

Midlands superstar returned to the region and treated fans to a spectacular show

Becky Hill was on familiar territory as she brought her UK tour 'home' to Birmingham. Well, it's about as close to home the Bewdley superstar will get on her trip around the country.

Birmingham shows are always special to her - she made a point of saying so herself during the fast and frenetic two-hour show in which she barely stopped for breath (even putting on a Brummie accent). It's the show where family and friends from down the road in Worcestershire are most likely to be in attendance.

And as one of our own, Becky didn't disappoint her 'favourite' audience. Never one to take herself too seriously, she had plenty of fun with the crowd, telling them she knew they were here for the "bangers".

If you've paid attention to chart music over the last decade you'll be aware of Becky Hill. And if you don't know her name, you'll surely recognise some of her tracks, so frequently played are they on the radio.

She's mastered the art of catchy dance-pop along her journey from TV singing competition The Voice to superstardom. It's hard to believe Becky is still only 30, having seemingly been around for so long now.

Starting out providing vocals for dance DJs and producers as she launched her career after The Voice, the West Midlands singer gradually became the centre of attention and a big name in her own right with her unmistakable voice, while remaining true to her dance music roots.

And over recent years, she's rolled out single after single, meaning she had plenty of material for the Utilita Arena crowd. Cliché as it may sound, it really was a case of 'oh yeah, I'd forgotten about this one' as she moved from one high-energy hit to the next.

As a fan of Becky's for years, I'd been keen to see her show, having got a taste of it at Free Radio Hits Live last year when she was one of the top names on the bill. But this time, the stage belonged to her and her alone. And she didn't disappoint, her adoring fans dancing, jumping and singing along with her, losing themselves in the music during the feelgood two-hour set.

Becky performed many of her more recent hits from over the past few years, like Remember and recent smash Disconnect, which she released with dance/drum and base duo Chase & Status, along with the odd classic or two for the long-time fans who had been there since the start (like me - thanks Becky).

There was an intimate moment in the gig when the singer moved to a small platform in the middle of the arena to perform a couple of slower songs, to the delight of the audience, many capturing the moment on their phones. And it was a show that delivered exactly what you'd expect, basically tune after tune.

Incredible vocals and a whole lot of noise. The full Becky Hill experience.
