Iceland 'assessing damage' after car smashes into Bearwood store

Damage was being assessed at an Iceland store after a car smashed through the front. The store in Bearwood Road, Smethwick, was shut after the collision yesterday, Monday, November 26.

Iceland confirmed the store would remain closed while it assessed the damage. The crash took place at about 7.50pm.

One woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. An Iceland spokesperson said: "Our Iceland store located on Bearwood Road, Smethwick, is temporarily closed to ensure safety while we assess the damage from an earlier incident.

"In the meantime, we encourage customers to visit our nearest store, Iceland Smethwick, located at Unit 3, Windmill Shopping Park, Smethwick. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson previously said it sent two ambulances to the scene. They said: "On arrival, crews found a car had come off the road and collided with a building.

"The driver, a woman, was treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital for further treatment." A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: "We were called after a car hit a building in Bearwood Road at around 7.50pm yesterday, November 25.

"One person was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening."
