Jake Paul and Mike Tyson handed suspensions from boxing after one-sided bout
by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveJake Paul and Mike Tyson will be handed suspensions from boxing in the coming days after a one-sided fight in the early hours of Saturday morning. Paul beat Tyson by an eight-round unanimous decision. Ringside judges Laurence Cole and Jesse Reyes handed down scores of 79-73, while David Iacobucci had it an 80-72 shutout.
Neither man was hurt in the contest but as it was sanctioned as a professional event, both men will be ordered to rest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the body overseeing the fight, which ended in a victory for Paul.
The regulations state each fighter will be told to rest for three days for every round fought; meaning 24 days' rest will be ordered for Paul and Tyson. “I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself,” Tyson said. “I’m not one of those guys that looks to please the world. I’m just happy with what I can do.”

“I can’t use that for excuses,” said Tyson, who landed just 18 of 97 punches (18.6%) in the contest, compared with 78 of 278 (28.1%) by Paul. “If I did, I wouldn’t be in there.” The YouTube star bowed to Tyson with respect in the seconds before the final bell before offering him praise in the immediate aftermath.
“First and foremost, Mike Tyson, it’s such an honour. Let’s give it up for Mike,” Paul said. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. He’s the GOAT, he’s a legend. I look up to him, I’m inspired by him and we wouldn’t be here today without him.
"This man is an icon and it’s just an honour to be able to fight him. And he’s obviously the toughest, baddest man on the planet.” Paul said: But this night’s not about me, man. I wanted to give a thanks to all the real heroes, the US military, the doctors, the nurses in the ER, the cops, the firefighters, the farmers, the truck drivers, all the people who make this world go right. Thank you, America. It’s the era of truth. It’s the era of good. There’s a shift in the world, and good is rising.”
