Liam Payne may have been UNCONSCIOUS when he fell from the third floor balcony of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, it has been claimed. The ITV The X Factor star, aged 31, died on Wednesday at around 5pm local time in Argentina.

The autopsy found he died from severe injuries sustained in the fall but that he didn't adopt a reflex position. Prosecutors said that given this, the position he was found in and the injuries he sustained, he may have been partly or fully unconscious when he fell.

A post-mortem revealed that Liam died after suffering “internal and external haemorrhaging” caused by the severe injuries. Photos purporting to show Payne’s room in disarray, published in local news and online, were believed to have been taken by hotel employees.

Born in Wolverhampton, Payne was the youngest of Karen and Geoff Payne’s three children. His mother was a nursery nurse, his father a fitter at the aerospace company Goodrich. He is survived by his son, his parents, and his sisters, Ruth and Nicola.

In July 2023 he revealed he had been sober for six months after 100 days in a treatment facility in Louisiana. “I just kind of feel like I’ve got more of a grip on life and everything that was getting away from me,” he said in an interview.

Among collaborators who paid their respects was the German DJ Zedd, who made the 2017 song Get Low with Payne and said on X: “I can’t believe this is real … absolutely heartbreaking.” The rapper Juicy J, who featured on an unreleased demo titled You, posted: “RIP Liam Payne wow I can’t believe it prayers up for the family.”

Pop star Mabel posted to her Instagram story: “For so many years I always knew I could call you for support and big brotherly advice but now you’re gone.” She continued: “My thoughts and prayers are with Liam’s family and friends during this time you’ll be so missed.”
