BBC Antiques Road Trip expert issues warning as she says 'it's kicking off'
by Helen Kelly, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/helen-kelly/, Jennie Buzaglo · Birmingham LiveDuring an episode of the celebrity edition of BBC's Antiques Road Trip, things got competitive between guests Harry Clark and Paul Gorton, as they searched for treasures across the Scottish highlands. The pair, known from their time on BBC's The Traitors, were guided on their antique hunt by experts Roo Irvine and Natasha Raskin Sharp.
Roo warned Natasha that it was kicking off between Harry and Paul, highlighting the tension fueled by their competitive spirits. Paul made his intentions clear to Harry, declaring: "You won The Traitors. I need to win this."
In Dingwall, while Roo was captivated by a mourning brooch with human hair, Paul spotted a 9 carat gold watch which Roo praised as "beautiful". They managed to secure both items at the antique shop for a total of £240.
Natasha and Harry, on the other hand, were drawn to a pair of First World War binoculars, prompting Natasha to endorse them by saying: "Carl Zeiss is a great maker of anything optical. They are German, high quality military field binoculars."
Along with three Irish spoons, they managed to get a deal, paying £140 for all the items, reports the Express.
Roo and Paul ended up in Hill of Fearne, whereas Natasha and Harry moved on to explore Cromarty. Paul stumbled upon a vintage photograph of Ardross Castle, the iconic filming location for The Traitors, dating back to 1902. Roo suggested that Paul should autograph it before auctioning it off, quipping: "Harry would hate this."
They also snagged a Titanic newspaper for £45. Over at another shop, Natasha and Harry discovered a 19th-century mug, with Natasha describing it as "creamware and lustrous".
In an attempt to haggle, Harry cheekily asked the shopkeeper for a date in hopes of reducing the £69 asking price. They eventually settled on £55. When the two teams reconvened to compare their finds, Harry couldn't resist teasing Paul as he picked up his watch, remarking: "You'll need this to sell because your other stuff, I'm not feeling your other stuff."
Unperturbed, Paul and Roo remained confident, with Roo whispering: "We're going to win." The banter escalated when Harry jokingly said, "Hold me back," and pretended to confront his fellow contestant. Roo couldn't help but exclaim: "Oh my goodness, Tash, it's kicking off."
Despite the mock tension, the atmosphere was clearly in jest as Harry admitted: "I can't look at you without smiling."
Ultimately, it was Paul and Roo who triumphed at the end of the episode, with their smaller loss of £81.20 outdoing Harry and Natasha's loss of £105.00.
