Jake Paul and Mike Tyson to be suspended from boxing after one-sided bout

by · Birmingham Live

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are set to receive suspensions from boxing in the coming days. The YouTuber outpointed Tyson in their contentious fight in Dallas on Friday night, despite failing to deliver on his pre-fight promise of knocking out the former undisputed heavyweight world champion.

Paul controlled the fight from the start, while Tyson struggled through his first match in four years and his first professional bout in nearly 20. As the contest was sanctioned as a professional event, both men will be instructed to rest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the body that supervised the fight.

The rules stipulate that each fighter must rest for three days for every round fought; hence, Paul and Tyson will be ordered to rest for 24 days. However, it is unlikely that either Tyson or Paul would be expected to fight within three weeks of Friday's bout ending.

Meanwhile, Tyson does not believe his loss to Jake Paul will mark his final appearance in a boxing ring. The eight-round fight, which took place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas and was streamed on Netflix, was scored 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 in favour of the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Despite this being Tyson's first fight in 19 years, the 58 year old hinted at future fights in his post-bout interview with Netflix, reports the Mirror.

When asked if this was his last appearance in the ring, Tyson responded: "I don't know. It depends on the situation. "I don't think so. " When questioned about a potential future opponent, Tyson singled out Paul's brother Logan who was present in the ring. The ex-world heavyweight champion expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, "I knew (Paul) was a good fighter," and "I didn't prove nothing to anyone, just myself.

I'm not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I'm just happy with what I can do. " In contrast, Paul used his post-fight remarks to honour his adversary, saying, " Mike Tyson, this is such an honour," and "He's the greatest to ever do it.

He is an icon. It was an honour to fight him.

He was exactly what I thought he would be. " However, the much-anticipated bout fell short of expectations, with a visibly fatigued Tyson struggling to match Paul's pace throughout most of the fight.
