Google Pixel's Unresponsive Navigation Button Bug Is Finally Fixed

by · Android Headlines

Google Pixel devices got the latest Android 16 update back in June. The OTA brought several core improvements and a fresh UI design change. However, after the update, we noticed several reports about the three-button navigation—and even gestures—becoming unresponsive. But we finally have some good news, as the issue has been addressed.

Google Pixel gets the latest August security patch

Many users, even including owners of the latest Google Pixel 9 series, reported that their device’s three-button navigation became unresponsive after installing the Android 16 update. The bug was so frustrating that the users sometimes had to forcibly press the buttons again and again, only to see it not work.

That’s not all; the buttons would sometimes fail to register the touch. And it would sometimes take as long as 30 seconds to trigger the function. Problems like these can really ruin the experience. But with the latest August 2025 security update, Google has finally addressed the bug.

The unresponsive button issue has been finally patched

All the devices from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 8 series have started receiving the latest August 2025 patch. The update fixes the known issue of Google Pixel devices having unresponsive navigation buttons. In the changelog, there’s a mention of a “fix for issues with 3-button navigation and gesture navigation in certain conditions.”

The update also addresses a longstanding issue that has frustrated Pixel users since March. In rare cases, the device would not automatically switch to dark mode at the scheduled time, requiring users to activate it manually. This bug has also been patched.

Lastly, the latest patch is rolling out in phases. Meaning, it may take some time before it lands on your device. You can also manually check the update availability by going to Settings and the Software Update section.
