Samsung Display Tech Poised to Power Apple's First Foldable iPhone

by · Android Headlines

Rumors of a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years. While Apple has remained characteristically tight-lipped, a new flurry of reports suggests this much-anticipated device might be closer than we think. Backing up previous rumors, Samsung would be the main supplier of display tech for the first foldable iPhone.

According to insights from the reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is reportedly gearing up to tap Samsung Display for the production of foldable panels destined for a future iPhone. This isn’t just about getting a screen that bends; the buzz is around Samsung’s advancements in crease-free technology.

Apple to use Samsung Display’s “crease-free” tech for its foldable iPhone

One of the main challenges with current foldable phones has been the visible and often palpable crease where the screen folds. Samsung has been actively working to minimize this on its own devices. The latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are a clear example of this. Now, it appears their latest innovations might be the key to Apple finally entering the foldable market. The reports suggest Apple is particularly interested in Samsung’s ability to produce foldable displays with a significantly reduced or even imperceptible crease.

Samsung’s “crease-free” display technology requires a key component from supplier Fine M-Tec. The latter primarily offers advanced internal hinges for this type of display. According to Kuo, choosing Samsung and Fine M-Tec as main partners will guarantee Apple mass production of the foldable iPhone.

This potential collaboration between two tech giants is certainly noteworthy. While they compete fiercely in the smartphone space, this wouldn’t be the first time Apple has sourced components from Samsung. However, the display is a crucial element of the user experience, especially for a foldable device. The decision on this component is key to the final user experience.

Apple could begin production of the device as early as the second half of 2026.

An “iPad mini” when unfolded

What could a foldable iPhone look like? According to reports, it could adopt an iPad-like form factor when unfolded. This would greatly facilitate the adaptation of current apps to the new device. It would also make it easier to use current versions of apps while developers adapt their products.

It is worth remembering that nothing is official yet. However, the signs are increasingly pointing toward a foldable iPhone powered by Samsung’s advanced display technology.
