Gemini Can Now Turn Your Images into Sound-Packed Videos — But There's a Catch
by Kristijan Lucic · Android HeadlinesGoogle’s Gemini can now turn your images into videos. Google did this by adding a new feature to Veo 3, which is Gemini AI’s video-creating tool. While creating videos from images is now possible, there are limitations.
Google gives Gemini the ability to transform your images into videos
Gemini can now create 8-second video clips for you, not longer ones. The good news is, they will have sound too. This is quite a limitation (length), but it could be a fun and useful feature still. You can see the feature in action below.
In order to try it out, you’ll need to select ‘Videos’ from the tool menu in the prompt box and upload an image. Following that, Gemini will require you to describe the scene and add any audio instructions.
Once you do all that, Gemini will do its magic and transform an image you uploaded to a video. Once it’s done, you’ll be able to either share it or download it, of course, as you please. You can also provide feedback to Google based on the finished product.
The orientation, resolution, and file type are set in stone
Another thing to note is that the finished videos are delivered in an MP4 format at 720p resolution and a 16:9 landscape format. You cannot affect that.
Is this available to everyone? Well, no, not exactly. It’s now rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in “select countries around the world.” The rollout has started for the web version of the tool, while it’s coming to mobile devices throughout the week.
“You can get creative by animating everyday objects, bringing your drawings and paintings to life, or adding movement to nature scenes,” Google said. The company also added that “All generated videos include a visible watermark to show they are AI-generated and an invisible SynthID digital watermark.”
This new feature is expected to further increase Veo 3 usage
It is worth noting that these same capabilities can be found in Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking tool. Speaking of which, Google says that over 40 million Veo 3 videos were made through the Gemini app and Flow over the last seven weeks. This new feature is expected to increase use even more.
