An African giant has reportedly taken a decisive and bold decision regarding their head coach following a humiliating defeat in its 2026 FIFA World Cup opening match.

Tunisia's World Cup campaign has reportedly been thrown into chaos after head coach Sabri Lamouchi was sacked with immediate effect in the wake of a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their Group F opener.

According to Insight News Network, the decision was taken just hours after the final whistle, with mounting pressure from supporters and key stakeholders within Tunisian football demanding swift accountability for the dismal result.

Football figures in the North African nation have allegedly described the defeat as one of the most embarrassing and painful in the history of the Carthage Eagles’ World Cup participation.

The match reportedly turned into a nightmare for Tunisia, as Sweden dominated from start to finish, exposing defensive frailties and a lack of structure across the pitch.

Moreover, some critics are said to have labelled the performance a “system collapse” rather than a simple off-day, pointing to deeper concerns within the team’s tactical and technical setup.

The result has now left Tunisia’s qualification hopes for the next round hanging by a thread, with the side still set to face heavyweights the Netherlands and Japan in a daunting Group F assignment.

According to the report, the Tunisian Football Federation has confirmed to Insight News Network that Lamouchi has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

However, no permanent replacement has yet been announced, with emergency discussions already underway to determine who will lead the team for the remaining group-stage fixtures.

In addition, a federation official, speaking anonymously to Insight News Network, allegedly described the decision as "necessary and unavoidable" given the scale of the performance collapse.

The Tunisian Football Federation is yet to publicly comment on the matter, neither confirming nor denying the reported dismissal during the ongoing tournament.
