Liverpool edge closer to title, Arsenal run riot

by · KickOff

Liverpool have edged closer to clinching the Premier League title with a 1-0 win away to Leicester City on Sunday evening.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was back in the Reds' squad for the first time in a month after recovering from injury, as Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai were recalled to the line-up.

Liverpool's hope of clinching the title this week were put on ice after Arsenal thrashed Ipswich Town earlier in the day.

After a frustrating first half, it was Alexander-Arnold who broke the deadlock in the 76th minute with a lovely left-footed volley at the far post.

Should lose Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, the Reds will be crowned league champions.

Ipswich Town 0-4 Arsenal

Arsenal secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League following a dominant 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners dream week continued after a ball in the area involving Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard saw Trossard pounce to make the breakthrough.

Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, who were the match-winner in Madrid in midweek, doubled the lead later on with a smart finish from a knockdown by Mikel Merino.

It got worse for the relegation-troubled host who were down to ten men when a cynical challenge by defender Leif Davis on Saka saw him given a straight red-card.

Arsenal remained in control and registered a fourth when Trossard peeled off a short-corner from Declan Rice to finish with ease.

The Gunners took full flight two minutes to the end after Ethan Nwaneri skipped past a few challengers to get the better of goalkeeper Alex Palmer, as it finished 4-0.

Fulham 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea overturned a first half deficit to secure a 2-1 victory over Fulham and boosted their ambitions towards a top-five finish at the end of the season.

The Cottagers were ahead inside the opening-quarter as winger Alex Iwobi picked up a layoff from the edge of the box by Ryan Sessegnon and finished from close-range.

Enzo Maresca’s men trailed for large periods of the match, but were on level terms seven minutes to the end through a snap effort by Tyrique George.

Chelsea completed the turnaround in additional time when Pedro Neto showed quick bit of feet to beat his marker and arrowed the back of the net.

Manchester United 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Manchester United suffered yet another defeat in the league and remained in the bottom-half following a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

Manager Ruben Amorim applied a different approach and debuted two development graduates in Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass, with Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire on the bench.

Spaniard and second half substitute Pablo Sarabia separated matters in delightful fashion when his scorching free-kick from flew past Onana and nestled into the top-corner.

The Red Devils, who were involved in a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Lyon midweek in the Europa League, weren’t able to overturn matters this time around.
