BBC TV star dies after short cancer fight as tributes paid to 'wonderful person'

BBC star Peter Grant has died after a short battle with cancer. Tributes have poured in to the broadcaster who had shows on a number of radio stations including Magic and BBC Radio Tees and Newcastle.

The presenter also had shows including on Durham FM, Magic, Plymouth Sound, Radio Aire, TFM and Hallam FM. He also appeared on screen with travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast and on Made in Tyne and Wear.

His friend and colleague Simon Logan announced the news in a post on Facebook. He said: "So very difficult to post that we have lost another radio legend and my great friend of 25 years.

"Peter Grant was a wonderful and talented person that was known for presenting radio and TV shows on many different platforms." He added: "R.I.P Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind ,generous and so positive all the time.

"Thanks for the laughs and the great times Peter, everyone who knew you will miss you always xx" He added a link to a radio show he did with him saying: "Here is a chat with him i did last year,just to hear his positive attitude which shines through is a leveller for all."

Following the announcement tributes have poured in from friends and colleagues. Alfie Joey said on X, formerly Twitter: "Very sad to hear about the passing of Peter Grant, an old pal from radio days at #BBCNewcastle @BBCNEandCumbria

"Always positive, always friendly, always optimistic. RIP." Former Look North news reader Colin Briggs paid tribute saying: "Dreadful, dreadful news. Great bloke Peter. Thoroughly enjoyed working alongside him. Proper pro at everything he did."

Mark Allison, trans-continental ultradistance runner who goes under the name of 'Run Geordie Run' said: "Really sorry to hear about the passing of Peter Grant. One of the kindest people I’ve ever met. RIP Peter."
