Sony's Killing This Ratchet & Clank Game Before It Even Comes Out

No more Ranger Rumble

One of PlayStation's mobile games is shutting up shop, and it's doing so before it's managed to launch globally.

You may recall Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, a mobile multiplayer game set within Insomniac Games' beloved sci-fi universe.

It's been quietly making progress with soft launches in specific countries, and was gearing up for a proper, global launch sometime soon. However, developer Oh BiBi has today announced its plans to cease development and close the whole thing down.

The official website for the game has been updated with a notice of the shutdown.

"We've made the difficult decision to cease development of Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble," the statement reads. "The final planned update will be rolling out November 6th, 2026, and the app will be removed from stores on November 21st, 2026."

Players who already have the game can carry on playing through to 1st May 2027, which is the date when the game's servers will permanently go offline. After this point, the game will no longer be playable.

In-app purchases have been removed, and content that was once premium is now available for free, or can be earned through normal play.

The game did release in some countries, including the UK and Canada, as part of a soft launch period before a planned worldwide launch. Back in July, people were invited to pre-register in preparation for the full release, but that will now sadly not be happening.

Ranger Rumble is a competitive multiplayer arena shooter of sorts with cartoonish visuals, various modes to play, and live service elements like time-limited events and seasonal rewards.

On the App Store, the game has a user score of 4.2 (out of 5) after 93 ratings, while it has a 4.4 score after more than 2,000 ratings on Google Play Store.

It's a shame to see the game go down the pan before it really got a proper chance.

Sony does have one or two other mobile games in the pipeline, including Horizon Steel Frontiers, in development at NCSOFT. Hopefully it fares better.
