Golden Knights to face Stars in 2027 Stadium Series game in Arlington

The Vegas Golden Knights have played in outdoor games. Nothi — eached this magnitude, though.

The Knights will take part in the NHL’s Stadium Series for the first time when they face the Dallas Stars on Feb. 20, 2027, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the league announced Thursday.

The game will air at 5 p.m. on ABC.

The teams will play in the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The stadium seats 80,000, but can expand to hold to more than 100,000, making it the NFL’s largest stadium by potential capacity.

The Knights will play in their third outdoor game. The announcement came the day the Knights hosted the Stars at T-Mobile Arena.

“We haven’t really talked about it,” captain Mark Stone said. “We’ve played so much hockey the last little bit. I’m sure we’ll be more excited for it next year. Those events are always fun to be a part of.”

This year’s Stadium Series game is Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Boston Bruins.

‘Fun experience’

The Knights played the Colorado Avalanche at Lake Tahoe in February 2021, losing 3-2. They faced the Seattle Kraken in the 2024 Winter Classic at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners. The Kraken won 3-0 after a 35-save shutout from goaltender Joey Daccord.

The Stars will host an outdoor game for the second time. They faced the Nashville Predators at the 2020 Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and won 4-2 in front of an announced crowd of 85,630.

This will be the first time the Knights are playing in a football stadium.

“It’ll be a fun experience,” Stone said. “There will be a lot of people there. I think those settings are a lot more fun when you’re in the building.”

Tomas Hertl is one of the few Knights players with Stadium Series experience. He was with the San Jose Sharks in 2015 when they played the Los Angeles Kings at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The end result wasn’t great for Hertl. The Sharks lost 2-1. The experience, especially in a stadium that opened the year before, was great, he said.

“I think it’ll be really cool, especially in a stadium like that,” Hertl said. “The Dallas Cowboys are one of the biggest franchises, and the stadium is massive. I think it’s pretty cool to see. I’m really looking forward to playing there.”

Familiar foes

The Knights and Stars have developed a fierce rivalry.

They’ve met three times in the playoffs, including twice in the Western Conference final. Dallas defeated the Knights in five games to advance to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. The Knights got revenge in 2023, winning in six games on their way to their first championship.

The teams met again in the first round in 2024, with the Stars winning in seven games.

Perhaps the third time is the charm for the Knights in these games. Coach Bruce Cassidy hopes so.

This is Cassidy’s first Stadium Series game but not the first time in a stadium. The 2019 Winter Classic was at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, when Cassidy coached the Boston Bruins against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“I’ve been involved in a few of these, and I’ve always enjoyed them,” Cassidy said. “I didn’t like the outcome in Seattle a few years ago. I don’t think we played great. But the whole buildup, the fact you’re involved in it, I think was awesome. I’m looking forward to it. I know it’s a ways away, but I’m glad they included us.”
