Love Jihad Row in Chennai: Woman Details Conversion, Exploitation and ₹13 Lakh Fraud in Complaint Against Employer
by Harshita Grover · TFIPOST.comFor years, Hindu woman, Suganya alias Safa Mariyum, believed she was moving towards marriage with the man she trusted the most. Today, that relationship stands at the centre of a police investigation involving allegations of love jihad, religious conversion, sexual exploitation, and financial fraud worth nearly ₹13 lakh.
The Chennai woman approached the police on May 6 with a detailed complaint against her Muslim employer, Syed Ibrahim. Police subsequently registered a case and began an investigation into the sequence of events described in her statement.
What emerges from the complaint is the story of a relationship that began inside a workplace and slowly moved into deeply personal territory, shaped by repeated assurances of marriage and promises of a shared future.
Suganya stated that Syed Ibrahim gradually earned her confidence while employing her, before the relationship evolved beyond professional boundaries. According to the complaint, marriage remained the central assurance throughout their association, influencing both emotional and personal decisions over an extended period.
A Relationship Built Around the Promise of Marriage
According to the complaint, Suganya remained in the relationship because she believed marriage would eventually take place. She stated that Syed Ibrahim repeatedly reassured her about their future together, strengthening her trust in him over time.
The complaint suggests that these assurances became the foundation of the relationship itself. Suganya stated that she made major life decisions while believing the commitment was genuine and permanent.
That belief, however, eventually collapsed.
Conversion Allegation Forms Core of Complaint
One of the most serious aspects of the complaint concerns conversion from Hinduism to another religion. Suganya stated that Syed Ibrahim linked the conversion to their future marriage and persuaded her to accept it as part of their life together.
She told police that she eventually agreed because she believed the marriage promise was real. According to the complaint, the marriage never materialised even after the conversion took place.
For Suganya, the conversion now represents what she describes as the emotional turning point of the relationship.
Sexual Exploitation and Financial Losses Detailed
The complaint further states that Syed Ibrahim sexually exploited her during the course of the relationship while continuing to assure her that marriage would follow. Suganya told police that those assurances kept the relationship intact for years.
Alongside the personal allegations, she has also described significant financial losses. According to the complaint, nearly ₹13 lakh was transferred or spent during the relationship while she believed they were preparing for a future together.
She now says that the emotional trust she placed in him extended into financial dependence and decision-making.
Planned Marriage to Another Woman Triggered Shock
The situation took a dramatic turn when Suganya learnt that Syed Ibrahim was preparing to marry another woman. According to details mentioned in the complaint, the wedding was reportedly scheduled around May 20.
The revelation, she stated, shattered the assurances that had defined the relationship for years and ultimately pushed her to approach the police.
Police Begin Investigation
Police registered a case after receiving the complaint on May 6 and have initiated an investigation into allegations related to conversion, sexual exploitation, financial fraud, and breach of trust.
Investigators are expected to examine financial transactions, statements, and other material connected to the case as the probe moves forward.
No public response has yet emerged from Syed Ibrahim regarding the allegations mentioned in the complaint.
