‘Absolutely abhorrent’: Harris blasts Trump’s ban of liberal outlets from White House
by Seth McLaughlin · The Washington TimesFormer Vice President Kamala Harris chided President Trump on Tuesday for banning three liberal outlets from the White House, calling the move “abhorrent” and accusing him of trying to muzzle journalists from fear of what they might tell the public about his administration.
“It’s abhorrent — absolutely abhorrent, and the man is afraid of the voice of the people and that the people understand and know what he’s doing,” Ms. Harris said in Michigan after a campaign stop with Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
“He’s trying to stifle the ability of journalists to let the people of America know what’s really going on with their government,” she said.
Mr. Trump, who defeated Ms. Harris in the 2024 election, announced the ban Friday in a Truth Social post, saying CNN, Politico and MS NOW “shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies” about his administration. He said the decision was “a result of their constant ’reporting’ fake news!” and warned that “other Fake News Media Outlets” could face similar treatment.
Reporters from those outlets were denied access to the White House the next day.
When reporters asked him in the Oval Office to justify banning the organizations, Mr. Trump said simply, “Because they’re fake news,” and that “something is wrong with a country that can allow people to write purposely negative stories.”
The three outlets are suing Mr. Trump for violating their constitutional rights.
