Trump in video to nation says ombat operations against Iran continue at ‘full force’
by Tom Howell Jr. · The Washington TimesPresident Trump released a social media video Sunday declaring the first 36 hours of his military campaign against Iran a major success, with more to come.
He pointed to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top officials, plus the destruction of major Iranian ships and military headquarters.
“Nobody’s seen anything like it,” Mr. Trump said in the six-minute video. “Combat operations continue at this time in full force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved.”
Mr. Trump ordered strikes on Iran on Saturday because he was not satisfied with Tehran’s approach to negotiations over its nuclear ambitions, missile program and support for terror groups in the region.
“We have very strong objectives. They could have done something two weeks ago, but they just couldn’t get there,” Mr. Trump said in the video.
The president said it would be unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear capabilities and long-range missiles, calling it a threat to all Americans.
He characterized the fight as one between a terrorism-sponsoring regime and a powerful nation – the U.S. – that could put a stop to such malign actions.
“We are undertaking this massive operation not merely to ensure security for our own time and place but for our children and their children,” Mr. Trump said. “These actions are right, and they are necessary to ensure that Americans never have to face a radical, bloodthirsty terrorist regime armed with nuclear weapons and lots of threats.”

Mr. Trump used social media posts and media interviews to update the American public on the military operation while he kept a low public profile at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.
He is returning to Washington late Sunday.
Tehran retaliated Sunday, striking Israel and targets across the Arab states of the Middle East, killing three American service members.
“We grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation even as we continue the righteous mission for which they gave their lives,” Mr. Trump said.
He said the nation is praying for five other service members who were wounded.

“Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That’s the way it is, likely be more. But we will do everything possible so that won’t be the case,” Mr. Trump said.
He said Iranian officials were “calling in by the thousands” to request immunity from the U.S.
“Many of them want to surrender,” Mr. Trump said.
