Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor takes legal action against police after arrest

The former prince was arrested at his new home on the Sandringham estate in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was later released without charge but under investigation, after a 13 hour detention at a poilice station.
Now, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s legal team have launched a claim against Thames Valley Police over the legality of the search warrants used in the investigation. Properties at Sandringham and at Royal Lodge, Windsor were searched during the arrest.
The Daily Telegraph broke the story that the eighth in line to the throne is pursuing a judicial review over the legality of the warrants which were issued by the Central Criminal Court. They were issued the day before the arrest took place. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was detained on February 19, his birthday, and held at Aylsham police station until the evening of the same day.
The legal challenge has been launched against the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police.
The arrest followed further revelations about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s friendship with the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
In October 2025, King Charles stripped his younger brother of his HRH and Prince titles and had his other titles, including his dukedom, removed from the Roll of Peerage. Andrew stepped back from public life in 2019, following a disastrous TV interview that followed more news of his friendship with Epstein.
