Police Arrest Suspect In Connection with Murder Of University Of Cape Coast Student

According to a statement from the Police Service, the suspect, identified as Michael Mensah, was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team on June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast following what authorities described as sustained intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect, who claims to be a professional teacher but also works as a driver, allegedly picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the University of Cape Coast hostel enclave on June 11, 2026, at about 6:48 p.m.
Police say Michael Mensah subsequently transported Innocentia to Hutchland Beach, where she was reportedly last seen before her tragic death.
The arrest comes days after the discovery of Innocentia’s body on a beach in Cape Coast, a development that sparked widespread grief and calls for justice from students, family members, and the general public.
The deceased, a Level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast, was reported missing before her lifeless body was found under circumstances that prompted a major police investigation.
The case attracted national attention, with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu assuring the public that authorities would conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the truth behind the student’s death.
In its latest update, the Ghana Police Service indicated that investigations remain ongoing and assured the public that any further developments would be communicated in due course.
The arrest has brought some relief to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, who have been demanding answers since news of her death emerged.
