Girlfriend Of Deceased Police Inspector Defrauds The Family Of The Bereaved
by Armani Brooklyn · GHANA PAGEThe Assin Fosu District Court has convicted a woman identified as Sarah Wilson for impersonation, stealing, and obtaining electronic payment by false pretences after she allegedly defrauded the father of a deceased police inspector.
According to court proceedings, Sarah Wilson, who was the former girlfriend of the late police officer, posed as a senior police officer and convinced the deceased inspector’s father to send her money under the pretext of facilitating funeral-related arrangements.
The court heard that the convict successfully obtained GH¢2,000 from the victim during the initial stage of the scheme without raising suspicion.
However, her attempt to secure an additional GH¢2,000 reportedly triggered concerns and led the deceased officer’s father to report the matter to the police.
Following investigations, Sarah Wilson was arrested and interrogated by law enforcement officers.
During questioning, she reportedly admitted to the offence. She revealed that she had used a “magic voice” software application to disguise her voice and impersonate a senior police officer while communicating with the victim.
Authorities also recovered GH¢2,000 believed to be proceeds from the fraudulent transaction.
After hearing the case, the Assin Fosu District Court convicted Wilson on charges of impersonation, stealing, and obtaining electronic payment by false pretences.
She was sentenced to a fine of 90 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢1,080, or six months’ imprisonment in default of payment. In addition, the court placed her on a one-year bond of good behaviour.
Reports indicate that the convict has since paid the fine and avoided serving the custodial sentence.
