Dutch Foreign Minister Berendsen calls Trump Gaza disarmament roadmap ‘hopeful’

Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen called it "hopeful" that U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday presented a "roadmap to the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza."

The deal outlines a phased process for Hamas to inventory and store heavy weapons, military production sites, weapons depots, and tunnels. It is paired with a gradual Israeli military withdrawal during the disarmament phase, under a 15-point roadmap from the U.S.-led Board of Peace.

The CDA minister Berendsen said on X that the plan marks an "important step for the security of Israel, the reconstruction of Gaza, and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

Hamas confirmed the existence of a plan covering disarmament and an Israeli withdrawal. Another armed group operating inside Gaza opposed any surrender of weapons. Israel has not responded.
