Two of the missing Dutch in Nepal might have been in village swept away by floods

Two Dutch nationals missing after severe flooding in Nepal were traveling with a pilgrimage group headed to the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet, according to the Dutch Foreign Ministry and Isha Foundation, which organized the trip. The village they had reached before disappearing is believed to have been swept away by a landslide, according to RTL.

A third Dutch national, an immigrant woman, is also still missing. Her age is unknown.

Christiaan, 29, and Maaike, 51, were among about 80 people who had left Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, for the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told RTL. The Isha Foundation said its last contact with the volunteer leading the group came about nine minutes before the flooding.

According to RTL Nieuws, the building where the group had arrived, along with large parts of the village, was swept away by the landslide. No further contact with the group has been reported.

Over 600 people are believed to have been killed by the Nepalese floods.
