Man spends £965 on TUI all-inclusive trip to test if it's worth it and realises one thing

An all-inclusive holiday might seem like a tempting option, but it's often difficult to work out whether you'd actually save money compared to a "pay as you go" approach.

YouTuber Ed Chapman decided to investigate this by booking into an all-inclusive resort in Turkey and keeping a detailed record of everything he consumed to see if he could "turn a profit" from his stay.

It wasn't until the fifth day of his five-day break that Ed finally managed to "go into profit". He pointed out that the real value of an all-inclusive deal depends on the type of traveller you are.

Ed spent £965 on his TUI holiday and immediately made some deductions, stating: "We need to knock off about £165 for the return flights to Turkey with checked luggage and then maybe like another £500 for five nights in the hotel. That leaves us with roughly £300 paid for the 'all inclusiveness'."

He wasted no time in starting his challenge, grabbing a sandwich and the first of numerous strawberry daiquiris. His journey also took him to a silent disco where, curiously, everyone appeared to be dancing to their own rhythm.

Ed recounted his singular experience at the resort, where a trio of DJs were spinning different tracks simultaneously, giving dancers the freedom to switch songs by changing channels on their headphones.

He remarked: "You can change between the different channels ...just weird to be trying to dance just dance with yourself. This is the first time I've ever done a resort holiday by myself, so this is going to obviously be a bit weird for us all."

Ed quickly moved on to the practical aspects of his stay, savouring a Turkish-style breakfast before making his way to one of the numerous pools.

He also shared a sly tip for maximising value at the all-inclusive resort, for those who don't mind skirting the rules slightly.

He continued: "One thing I do like about this hotel is that there's no wristbands or anything like that. Sometimes, in these places, you get really annoying wristbands that are fiddly and scratchy, but there's nothing like that here.

"They don't even ask your name at breakfast or at dinner or anything, so you could in theory just waltz in [and eat what you like]."

Nonetheless, even while adhering strictly to the rules, Ed found pleasure in his budget-conscious holiday. He enjoyed regular beverages and snacks, and taking advantage of the gym and spa facilities at the resort, which allowed him to save an extra £15 from his initial £300 budget for the week.

Ed was fortunate with the weather during his holiday, enjoying a steady 27C save for an intense thunderstorm which allowed plenty of time by the pool and on the water slide.

Surpassing his £300 budget on the fifth day, Ed felt he had made a wise choice with the all-inclusive package, especially after some celebratory drinks which he felt added to his sense of profit from the holiday.

Reflecting on the cost-effectiveness, he said: "We have managed to make a profit, and let's face it I'm not a massive drinker. If you're a bigger drinker than me and you had five, six seven or eight alcoholic drinks a day you could easily add another £150 onto that total."

He added: "So, the reality is if you've got the money to be able to do all-inclusive, and you are somebody that drinks quite a lot it's absolutely worth it. If you're somebody that drinks not too much, like me, it's still probably worth it if you've got the money."

Despite mixed opinions on such holiday deals, Ed summarised his experience as "pretty decent actually."

He continued: "We have managed to make a profit, and let's face it I'm not a massive drinker. If you're a bigger drinker than me and you had five, six seven or eight alcoholic drinks a day you could easily add another £150 onto that total.
