Spondon fire: Tragedy as man in his 30s dies after blaze in residential street

Fire crews attended an incident at Rovings Drive, Spondon, at 7.35am on Thursday (February 13) after reports of a fire in a ground-floor flat.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and rescued the man, who was handed into the care of paramedics. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has now confirmed that the man died at the scene.
There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze and the fire service has issued a statement. A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Tragically, a man in his 30’s has died following a flat fire on Rovings Drive, Spondon.
"Firefighters were called to attend the ground floor flat at 7.35am this morning. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service would like to extend the thoughts and sympathy of everyone in the Service to the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.
"A joint police and fire investigation is currently under way. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances. Firefighters and community safety officers will be in the Rovings Drive area later today and over the next couple of days to offer fire safety advice and reassurance to residents following this fire."
