Pain game... Lars-Jørgen Salvesen is out for the season.

Lars-Jorgen Salvesen breaks silence on Derby County injury and sets return target

by · Derbyshire Live

Derby County striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen says he will do "everything" he can to be ready for the start of next season after undergoing knee surgery.

In what is a significant blow for the Norwegian and the Rams, the forward has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after he fell in training on Tuesday.

According to head coach John Eustace, the striker had some cartilage cleared in his knee in what was an issue with his meniscus, not his ACL as some had speculated.

It is a huge disappointment for the striker, who only joined the club in January from Viking FK for a fee of around £800,000.

He said: "I am devastated to tell you my season is over. I injured my knee in training this week and I had a surgery a few days ago.

"I have absolutely loved putting on the Derby County shirt and playing for this massive club. I can't wait to do that again.

"Seeing the atmosphere today makes me want to do everything I can to be ready for the start of next season. What a club this is.

"Buzzing for the boys today and I will support them as best I can. We still have everything to fight for. Up the Rams."

News of Salvesen's injury came after Derby had secured their first win of 2025 as they beat Blackburn 2-1 to move them four points adrift of safety.

Early goals from Craig Forsyth and Ebou Adams put Derby 2-0 up after seven minutes but Rovers pulled a goal back before half-time through Makthar Gueye.

However, Derby comfortably saw out the second half to seal all three points as Eustace registered his first win as head coach.
