Following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Finlay MacDonald, 41, was found guilty of repeatedly discharging a shotgun at his brother-in-law John MacKinnon (pic).

Finlay MacDonald, who stabbed his wife then shot three people on and around Skye, was jailed for at least 28 years.

MacDonald denied each of the charges and lodged a special defence against the prosecution's murder charge, claiming his "ability to determine or control his conduct was substantially impaired by reason of abnormality of mind".

A man has been found guilty of murdering his brother-in-law and attempting to kill three other people during a shotgun rampage on the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland.

Finlay MacDonald faced a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh and had denied the charges.
