Opposition MPs have been seeking an extension of the JPC's tenure for the Waqf Amendment Bill. They argue that more time is required for stakeholders to present their cases, as the panel has only met 25 times.

The Waqf Bill, aimed at reforming Waqf property management, faces delays as political discord stalls the Joint Parliamentary Committee's progress. It's now set for potential discussion in the Budget Session 2025.

BJP member Jagdambika Pal, head of joint committee of Parliament, had said that the draft is ready but opposition members have demanded an extension for a more thorough discussion. They had met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday to press their demand.
