Former Scottish National Party chief executive Peter Murrell has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than £400,000, admitting diverting funds from the party which were used to buy items such as cars, a motorhome and luxury goods.

Murrell, the estranged husband of former first minister Nicola Sturgeon, appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday.

It emerged earlier this year that he has been accused of embezzling £459,000 from the party over more than 12 years.
