Top leaders of several political parties such as Bharatiya Janata Party, Telugu Desam Party, Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Aam, Aadmi Party etc expressed grief over those who lost their lives in a tragic stampede that occurred near Vishnu Nivasam in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati.

The incident occurred at three places where Vaikunta Dwara Darshan tickets were to be issued from Thursday morning.

At least six people have died and dozens are injured after a stampede among hundreds at the entry of a temple in southern India.

Tirupati district collector S Venkateswar on Wednesday told reporters that out of the six deceased devotees, five were women and a man.

Tirupati stampede: Former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams chairman BK Reddy said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should take moral responsibility for the stampede. On the other hand, ex-TTD chief VY Subba Reddy blamed the current board for the incident.

The Tirupati stampede was reported near Vishnu Niwasam at the Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara ticketing counter during the distribution of 'darshan' tokens. The incident was reported at 8 pm when Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials started distributing tokens at various centres.

Tirupati stampede: According to the complaint, the victims were waiting for darshan tokens at Padmavathi Park near Ramanaidu School when a sudden surge in the queue caused them to fall. They were rushed to SVRRGG Hospital, where medical authorities pronounced them dead.
