Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The board of trustees for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., voted Thursday to rename the facility to also honor President Donald Trump, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced.

The board of the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which President Donald Trump filled with allies during a broad takeover earlier this year, has decided to rename the institution the Trump-Kennedy Center, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.

The board of the Kennedy Center unanimously approved renaming the arts institution the Trump-Kennedy Center. Democratic representative Joyce Beatty attempted to object to the Center’s new name at the board meeting but was muted.

Representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio, a Democrat, said she tried to object to the name change, but “everything was cut off.”
