A video, showing a person purportedly being denied a hotel reservation because his identification card is from Jammu & Kashmir, has gone viral. In the video, a woman, who seems to be a front-desk employee is seen denying a reservation to a customer, claiming that the police had asked them not to accept such IDs. The Delhi Police has now refuted all such claims.

The clip has gone viral at a time when allegations of the movie, The Kashmir Files, spreading hatred against Kashmiri Muslims, are rife.

When the customer asks for the reason for the denial of a reservation, the woman calls someone higher up and then tells the patron: “We have been asked by the police not to accept IDs from Jammu and Kashmir.”

The Delhi Police on Wednesday clarified that no such direction had been issued by them. “A purported video is viral on social media wherein a person is being denied a hotel reservation due to his J&K ID. The reason for cancellation is being given as direction from police. It is clarified that no such direction has been given by Delhi Police,” it tweeted.

“The aggrieved person in the video, while posting the same on YouTube, stated that he stayed in the same area in another hotel and it was a lame excuse given by the hotel. Some netizens are trying to discredit the image of Delhi Police through willful misrepresentation of the video in circulation which can attract penal action,” it said.
