The head of France's world-famous Louvre Museum has resigned, the office of the French presidency has announced, following a months-long string of scandals - including a brazen jewel heist.

Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The director of the Louvre in Paris, Laurence des Cars, resigned her post Tuesday, months after thieves stole more than $100 million in jewels from the museum, French President Emanuel Macron announced.

Laurence des Cars had been under rising pressure since the October robbery at the museum that saw $100 million of French crown jewels stolen.
