Santiago: Far-right candidate Jose Antonio Kast has emerged victorious in Chile's presidential runoff, becoming the country's 38th president and ending

Third time's a charm for Chilean far-right politician Jose Antonio Kast who will become the country's next president. After two previous failed presidential bids, he secured nearly 60% of the vote in a run-off against leftist Jeanette Jara. Kast's win is the latest in a string of right- wing leaders elected across south America, as supporters hope he will kickstart the economy and make the country safer.
