Israel has hailed US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan after its endorsement by the UN Security Council, as Hamas rejected the resolution which calls for the deployment of an international force in the Palestinian territory.

Once the Palestinian Authority has carried out requested reforms and the rebuilding of Gaza is underway, "the conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood", according to the US-drafted resolution.

The UN Security Council on Monday voted to adopt a U.S.-drafted resolution endorsing President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza and authorizing an international stabilization force for the Palestinian enclave.

The UN Security Council has approved the US plan for Gaza, marking a major diplomatic victory for Washington. The vote endorses President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan, which lays out a framework for halting hostilities and rebuilding Gaza.

The draft text says the force would work with Israel and Egypt and “vetted Palestinian police units” to help secure border areas and demilitarise Gaza.

The Security Council’s backing offered a scaffolding of international legitimacy that will be needed to persuade countries to help see the plans through.

The vote was a crucial next step for the fragile ceasefire and efforts to outline Gaza’s future.

The endorsement is a “significant step forward towards a lasting peace in Gaza”, said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.

Resolution 2803 (2025) received 13 votes in favour, and none against, with permanent members China and Russia abstaining.
