Africa's regional bodies on Saturday rejected the recognition of Somalia's breakaway region of Somaliland as an independent nation by Israel.

Israel on Friday became the first country to formally recognise Somaliland, a self-declared republic that broke away from Somalia in 1991 after a civil war but has never been recognised by any United Nations member state.

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon after Israel’s unilateral recognition of the Somali breakaway region of Somaliland.

Somaliland Recognition: Israel has become the first nation to formally recognize Somaliland as a country, over three decades after the region broke away from Somalia. Meanwhile, the UNSC will convene an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss Jerusalems decision.
