While the Indian and Chinese troops have disengaged at the Depsang plains and Demchok area, talks to resume patrolling as it was prior to April 2020 are underway at level of local commanders.

Army sources on Wednesday confirmed that disengagement between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh’s Depsang and Demchok plains was completed, four years after continued tensions in the wake of the 2020 border skirmishes.

Earlier on Tuesday, an Indian Army official said the disengagement process in the Depsang and Demchok areas of the Eastern Ladakh sector is almost over.

The sources said that the coordinated patrolling would start soon by both sides and added the ground commanders would continue to hold talks.

This came after both India and China confirmed that an agreement had been reached between two nations regarding patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas.
