Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus hailed a special tribunal's verdict against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her aide.

Sheikh Hasina is credited for the country's economic progress but also accused of authoritarianism.

Minutes after the ruling, the party accused “extremist elements within the interim government” of driving a “brazen and murderous agenda.”

Bangladesh maintains that Hasina must face the legal consequences outlined by the tribunal and has pressed India to act in accordance.

In its written order, the tribunal stated that Hasina was fully aware of the killings carried out during the protests and had authorised actions that resulted in loss of life.
